Mind-Body Skills Groups are experiential and evidence-based. In our group community, we incorporate techniques such as meditation, guided imagery, autogenics, breathing, and movement that are taught in a supportive environment.
Supporting Your Journey to Wellness
Mind-Body Skills Groups offer a hands-on, evidence-based experience. Within a supportive group setting, participants learn and practice techniques like meditation, guided imagery, autogenic training, breathwork, and movement. These groups encourage self-reflection and provide opportunities to share and connect, creating space for personal growth and collective well-being. Members witness both their own emotions and the experiences of others, fostering deeper understanding and empathy. Typically, our Mind-Body Skills Group includes eight participants and a facilitator, meeting once a week for eight sessions of two hours each. Throughout the program, participants begin to weave these mind-body practices into their daily lives with encouragement from the group. Research has shown these skills can reduce stress, boost mood, increase resilience and optimism, and help prevent chronic health issues (CMBM.org).
Our mind-body medicine group follows a model developed by Dr. James Gordon, founder of the Center for Mind-Body Medicine (CMBM) in 1991. Dr. Gordon, a former researcher at the National Institute of Mental Health, currently serves as a clinical professor of psychiatry and family medicine at Georgetown Medical School. He also previously chaired the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy and is the author of Transforming Trauma: The Path to Hope and Healing, a book we highly recommend.
The Center for Mind-Body Medicine is recognized as the world’s largest and most effective program for addressing psychological trauma on a broad scale. The CMBM approach equips individuals with tools to reduce stress and strengthen resilience. Chronic stress can significantly contribute to mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief, and addiction, as well as physical health conditions like heart disease, immune system issues, and chronic pain (adapted from CMBM.org).
Your group leaders have completed both the professional and advanced professional training in facilitating mind-body medicine groups through the Center for Mind-Body Medicine.
